Queer Owned Seattle Business Series: Queer TTC Doula, Morgan Henry Kerr aka MAMO

To celebrate Pride month and elevate LGBTQ+ voices, I’m highlighting a few locally owned queer businesses. Thank you Morgan for sharing about yourself this week. Morgan provides queer conception support and consultation both two on one and in a group setting. Check out Morgan’s instagram @iam_mamomhk

What led you to open your business for queer conception support in the Seattle area?

When we started our TTC (trying to conceive)  journey in 2019 we were shocked at the lack of resources and support for queer people and family planning, like what is an IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) and where do we go to get one? We really had to piecemeal our process together. So I created the thing I wish we had had at the start or on our path to pregnancy and parenthood. My background is in community building, delight and surprise, bringing pleasure and celebration and self care into your everyday life so I’ve also infused that vibe into my offerings so that the process is more efficient but also more connected, more healing and more fun!

What kind of services do you provide in the Seattle area?

It’s important to me to meet queer couples right where they are on their path  to parenthood. And to first determine how I can best serve them.  I’ve created two main offerings:

-1:2 60 minute consultation with me where couples can ask me questions from my own TTC experience, together we can make a plan of their first 1-3 steps and I will give them two tools from my pleasure and mindset tool box ie. affirmations or self love subliminals or my love letter template to future child. This consultation can be a one off or can be a 3 pack because some folks prefer that 1:2 close attention and mentorship and just want to ask questions, bounce ideas and get that type of support and know they are going to want that once their journey gets started. The two other sessions can be scheduled anytime over the next 12 weeks. I am offering these 60 minute sessions for $99 and  3 packs for $249 during Pride Month!

Another possibility is a couple loves that initial brainstorming session and then really wants to be in community with other queer parents to-be!

BECOMING PARENT PROGRAM is a 12 week container that includes:

Weekly group calls via zoom where we can talk about and support each other with what's coming up in real time. This is a beautiful opportunity to process and heal and be celebrated. And of course you can wear your pjs because here we do whatever the hell we want!! As I discover more of the needs of this community I will add other providers, i.e. fertility doctors, doulas, hypnotherapists to be guest speakers.

My pleasure and mindset toolbox is self guided and full of tools that support the nervous system and create deep connection and joy that gets you through the ups and downs of baby making.

Couples will also get an account on Discord which will be our communication hub between calls where I will be adding other resources like podcasts, articles, contacts and of course snarky pregnancy memes etc. ha! It’s a place for couples to add their own wins, quotes, tips they’ve learned etc.

How does your service help people trying to conceive?

It helps them handle all of the ups and downs of the TTC process and empowers them to advocate for themselves as they navigate the world of fertility. It also helps folks not feel alone. To be in  community with other people who are experiencing some of the same challenges and can relate. To be guided by someone who has gone before them and knows first hand how infuriating and beautiful this journey can be. One of the things we wished we had at the start was just someone to tell us what to do! To ask questions, to give us a roadmap, even if that was just the first few steps. I’ve created the thing I wish we had.

What kind of people do you love working with?

I may eventually open it up to allies using fertility treatments to conceive but for now it’s for JUST US! All folks from the LGBTQ+ community.

What happens during a first appointment with you?

During our 1:2 (me and both birthing and nonbirthing parent) consultation we spend 60 minutes together via zoom. Ask me questions from my own personal TTC journey, I’ll help you put together a plan for your next couple of steps and provide you with two tools from my pleasure and mindset tool box ie a self love subliminal I’ve recorded or bingo card you can use to make sure you get all your questions asked from your doctor/midwife at the start.

What do you wish people knew about services with you?

That they really come from my own lived experience and passion for tending to and empowering other queer folks who are starting a family. It’s a massively powerful time in ones life. This BECOMING phase! This isn’t just PDF’s and boring zoom meetings. It’s about healing, celebrating, having tools that create real joy and connection through this process for yourself and each other. Being in community and being well resourced, having a space where you can say anything, feel safe and be your authentic self is going to benefit your nervous system in the short and long term during your TTC, pregnancy and parenting.

How can people contact you to learn more about your queer conception support services?

The best way to contact me and get a vibe for what I’m offering is to visit me on instagram @iam_mamomhk

I include resources on my profile and the link in my bio takes you to the next steps in working together.

What advice would you give to other LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs?

The world needs your art your unique ideas and ways of thinking!! Thank you for showing up and showing out!

How are you celebrating Pride this year in Seattle?

I live in Bellingham now but did live in Seattle 2007-2012. During that time I worked for Starbucks and then was a member of the GSBA (Greater Seattle Business Association) and got to walk in the Seattle Pride Parade! I miss the energy of a big city Pride weekend! We’ve considered taking our 2.5 year old daughter this year. But for sure I will be hosting my 3rd annual Pride Pool Party in my back yard with homemade popsicles, pool, bubble machine, disco balls, Prosecco, grill and our friends which includes about 15 kids 3 and under!

Thank you Morgan for participating in my Locally Queer Owned Business Series and for all your amazing work in the community!
